Putting on

Acts 5:29

Peter and the other apostles replied: "We must obey God rather than men!

I'm the worlds worst and worrying what folks will think of me. When I meet new people I always try to put on my best personality, but somehow what they get is just the same old Phyllis. I don't know why I even bother to worry.

This reminds me of the day a friend of mine and I found ourselves eating lunch at a local tearoom and the proprietor came over to ask where we were from. When we told her she said she knew a little girl that had moved to Thomaston and asked if we knew her. When we said we did, she asked, "does she still put on?" Well, the term "putting on or put on" in the South means that you are pretending to be something you are not to make people think more highly of you. We laughed, smiled then sniggered and admitted she did still 'put on. Silly us, or I should just say silly me.

I catch myself from time to time 'putting on. The thing is, I shouldn't because in the end it doesn't matter what others think of me, it matters what God thinks of me.

i'm sure this has been something we all have succumbed to before, phyllis....however, at this point in my life...i am in jeans and a t-shirt, usually with food of some sort on it from grandbabies....and the only people i usually see on a daily basis are my family.....so...:) and so much less energy required to just be me...not sure i have too much in my background that would impress anyway....even if i tried! :) and i love my life...and my blessings...food stained clothes and all!
have a beautiful Georgia morning!
hugs,

I think we all do a little of this Phyllis, especially in this day and age when we wear so many hats...it's kind of like being an onion...I know, bear with me...we let most people see the outer layer, and those that stick it out get to see a little more, but those who love onions find the center sweet and worth the wait...ok, that was rather silly, but sometimes our confidence level governs what we reveal and it has been my experience that if we just allow ourselves to be who we really are (thorns and all)it inspires others to be real also, and that's the charm of figuring out who your REAL friends are too...we have a saying around my house when we walk out the door...instead of saying "Bye", we often say "Keep it real"...it means regardless of the influences you are faced with, remember WHO you are and just be yourself...
well, I am rather chatty this morning aren't I...all over a good cup of coffee...thank you for the conversation...
hope your Sabbath day in Georgia is relaxing and reflective ~

Love the picture, 'tis beautiful!

many hugs,
