God and His garden

John 14: 12-14

12I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. 13And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. 14You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.

Why do I always have to be the one that starts to do laundry and there's no detergent? I guess it was time for me to do my 'Dollar Store'run, which included light bulbs, paper towels, trash bags and Clorox. So off I go.

I scurried around the store, gathered up my goodies, and headed for the checkout counter only to be blocked in the narrow aisle by a young man that appeared to be about sixteen-years- old. I wasn't in a hurry, so I patiently waited for the boy to realize that I was there. This was when he waved his hands excitedly in the air and declared in a loud voice, 'Mommy, I'm over here.'

It was obvious now, he was mentally challenged, and also startled as he turned and saw me standing so close to him, waiting to squeeze by. His eyes widened and surprise exploded on his face as I said, 'Hey Buddy, what's your name?' 'My name is Denny and I'm shopping with my mother,' he responded proudly. 'Wow,' I said, 'that's a cool name; I wish my name was Denny, but my name is Hal.' 'Hal like Halloween?' he asked. 'Yes,' I answered. 'How old are you Denny? 'How old am I now Mommy?' he asked his mother as she slowly came over from the next aisle. 'You're fifteen-years- old Denny; now be a good boy and let the man pass by.' I acknowledged her and continued to talk to Denny for several more minutes about summer, bicycles and school. I watched his brown eyes dance with excitement because he was the center of someone's attention. He then abruptly turned and headed toward the toy section.

Denny's mom had a puzzled look on her face and thanked me for taking the time to talk with her son. She told me that most people wouldn't even look at him, much less talk to him... I told her that it was my pleasure and then I said something I have no idea where it came from, other than by the prompting of the Holy Spirit. I told her that there are plenty of red, yellow and pink roses in God's garden, however, 'Blue Roses' are very rare and should be appreciated for their beauty and distinctiveness. You see, Denny is a 'Blue Rose' and if someone doesn't stop and smell that rose with their heart and touch that rose with their kindness, then they've missed a blessing from God. She was silent for a second, then with a tear in her eye she asked, 'Who are you?' Without thinking I said, 'Oh, I'm probably just a 'daffodil or maybe even a dandelion,' but I sure love living in God's garden. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~

That made me cry....I have a God daughter who has down syderome and some people will just look at her with kind of a pity look and some will smile and a few will talk, if people only knew the joy and love she brings other's, I think of her often at work and my heart beats faster and I smile, God only gives those gifts to extra specail people, and one day when my children are out of the house, I want to be a foster mother to a downs syderome child. If you dont mind can I please copy that and give it to my God daughter's mother. I picked her middle name it's Hope, her name is Danielle Hope. Thanks for sharing the sweet storey. xoxoxoxox

This is how I feel about my homeless friends...some are a little trampled on and some are missing a petal or two, but individually they add extraordinary color to the bouquet. I'm just hoping a little living water will freshen their stance and help them realize that they are a flower in God's garden...currently there are so many weeds holding them down.

This is a lovely post. I think I'd be a daisy, plain and simple. What flower are you in God's garden, Phyllis?

Oh Joni, I don't know. Perhaps I'm an azalea. I really am a pink, prissy type when I really clean up. I bloom really good about once a year and the rest of the time I'm just soaking up nurishment to make another bloom. Every once in a while I might say or do something really spectacular but for the most part I'm just green, thinking, learning, growing and waiting for a time I can do or say something that will be meaningful or helpful to those that might walk across the path where I live.

I too am very glad to be part of God's plan, His puzzle of sorts that makes all of us fit together and make a beautiful garden.

I planted some of those azaleas that bloom twice a year, so I guess there is hope that one day there will be azaleas that bloom all the time. :) Just thinking about the energy that would take makes me tired. Perhaps I should just stick with being the blooming once a year type.

Word of the day.
